UC Sampdoria defender Hugo Campagnaro will miss the UEFA Cup first-round first leg against FBK Kaunas on 18 September because of a right calf injury sustained during a friendly against Swiss side FC Chiasso on Thursday.

Second calf injury
Centre-back Campagnaro was replaced eight minutes into the second half of the 6-0 victory and, after medical tests, is expected to be sidelined for three weeks. The Argentinian could also sit out the return match in Lithuania on 2 October. The 28-year-old, who joined Sampdoria in 2007 from Piacenza Calcio, featured 22 times in Serie A last term before his season was ended prematurely by another calf injury in January.
