The season in pictures - part 1

Black Cats Bulletin
season review

By Martin Walker

What a season!

Roy Keane's men secured their Premier League status with two games to go - and there were plenty of ups and downs along the way!

Starting today, we're reviewing the season in 10 monthly parts, with a picture gallery illustrating the campaign and a league table at the end of every calendar month, showing Sunderland's progress throughout the season.

August

The season started in typically, last-gasp fashion as Sunderland kick-started the campaign with a late win against Tottenham at the Stadium of Light.

But the rest of August left a lot to be desired and showed that the Black Cats were in for a long old season - a 2-2 draw at Birmingham was followed by a 3-0 defeat at Wigan.

By the end of the month, Sunderland were 16th in the table and had been dumped out of the Carling Cup with a sorry defeat at Luton.

August results:

Tottenham (H) 1-0
Birmingham (A) 2-2
Wigan (A) 0-3
Liverpool (H) 0-2
Luton (A) 0-3 (Carling Cup)
