Isaksson to start at Riverside

09/05/2008 16:00

After facing the media ahead of the final game of the season at Middlesbrough on Sunday, Sven-Goran Eriksson gave the press some unexpected news amongst the maelstrom at Carrington this afternoon.

“I can give you some news,” Sven began. “Isaksson is in goal on Sunday.

“It’s not because Joe Hart had been behaving badly – on the pitch or off the pitch – it’s only that I want to give Isaksson the chance to play the last game.”

It’s been a tough season for Isaksson who has largely had to watch from the bench, making only five City appearances this campaign, and has been strongly linked with a move away from the Club during the winter transfer window.

The boss’ fellow countryman hasn’t started a league game since December’s 4-2 home victory over Bolton Wanderers but Eriksson was quick to praise the big keeper’s professionalism over the season.

He added: “I think he’s been absolutely fantastic – a super professional.”

Elsewhere amongst his squad for the weekend Sven stated: “Injury-wise, we are the same as we were last week. Bojinov is still out, as are Onuoha and Richards of course. Everyone else is fit and ready."
